I’ve just released a new single “NOTE TO SELF”, like with every song of course there’s a little story behind it, so let me tell it. (Also below this is a Spotify link that will play Note To Self, why not use it to listen while you read this 😉
This song is actually a re-release of a demo I originally set free on SoundCloud around the time of Kobe Bryant passing. That death hit me hard, like so many others Kobe was a mentor for me and the energy of this song and the lyrics I just thought captured what Kobe meant to me at the time.
“Do or Die don’t die alone” – Isn’t that what mamba mentality is all about? It’s either we do this or we die trying. A note to myself reminding me and anyone else to stay motivated.
I’d love to leave this out but omission is as good as telling a lie, so let me add at the time of me writing this – a broke af uni student in Leeds and a barely ‘upcoming’ artist at the time I was battling suicidal thoughts & just mental storms. I’d argue with myself constantly, times I’d annoy Forty not coming out the studio, all my free time was dedicated to locking in.When I was locked in I had no space or time for the mental games. So the way Forty comes in clean on the hook with “The grass is greener on the side, I don’t think you really wanna die”.
He doesn’t even know I’ve thanked him quietly for that bar so many times listening to this song. I wrote this at 20 years old, I’m 26 now.
Note to self – “You’re capable of so much more than you know. Even when it feels like nothing is happening, train your subconscious to be patient, to visualize the house you’re building constantly. The grass stays green where you maintain. It’s Do or Die & I don’t think you really want to die.”
You can listen to “Note To Self” on the player below, I urge you to follow me on Spotify, the catalogue is healthy and building strong. There’s a lot of releases set for this year and I’m looking forward to every single one.
I’m pushing to reach 500 followers on Spotify this year, currently we sit at 303…not far!
Enjoy the music – T.
